Encouragement

These are sermons, books, devotionals, and hymns I've found encouraging and a personal comfort and blessing in my life, especially during trials. If you take the time to listen to or read any of them, I pray they might be a blessing to you as well! I've compiled them here with the hope it is an encouragement to other believers in particular as they have been to me; or if you are unsaved, to show you the way of salvation. I will be editing this page as time goes on (Lord willing)...so please check back for more.

Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. -2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Note: As might be expected, I do not fully endorse the doctrinal and/or personal views of any of the speakers or writers of these messages. :)  As with all things, we ought to compare scripture with scripture for our own selves, and seek the Lord for Godly discernment in all that we read and hear!

Lord, give me grace
To shun all things,
That lead from Heaven and Thee;
And make Thy Word,
Most Holy One,
More precious unto me.

While no book should ever take the place of our priority of and love for the Word of God first of all...these are books that I trust will encourage you to desire God's Word more, rather than draw your attention away from it. That is my prayer!

BOOKS:

These books are all personal favorites of mine.

Miscellaneous free reading material online: Olive Berry Books

Read for Free online: The Peace Which Christ Gives His Followers sermon by Jonathan Edwards

Read for free online: Sermons and Addresses by George Mueller

Purchase OR Read for Free Online: Answers to Prayer by George Mueller - This book has greatly impacted my Christian life, and I would encourage anyone to read it if possible. To read for free online, click on the "Read in BTP Library" link below the image of the book.

Purchase: The Fear of God by John Bunyan

Purchase: The Acceptable Sacrifice by John Bunyan

Purchase: Lambs Safely Folded - This book has touched my heart many times, most especially in my early Christian walk, and often made me desire to have a closer walk with God as I read the last words of these dear children who the Lord took to be with Himself at young ages. Their words and understanding of God's mercy to them was so far beyond their years...clearly a work of the grace of God in their hearts. I highly recommend it!

Purchase: Sunshine Country by Kristina Roy  - It's probably obvious that my blog is titled after this book, and shows what an influence it has had in my life! :) This true story is such an amazing book to read of God's grace, mercy and overruling Hand. The simple faith Palko came to have in the Lord is sweet to read of...and what I desire and pray for in my own life. I grew up with memories of my dad reading this book to us children...and I think anyone else would enjoy hearing it too!

"Hope fills the afflicted soul with such inward joy and consolation, that it can laugh while tears are in the eye. It can both sigh and sing in the same breath."

DEVOTIONALS:

SPURGEON'S MORNING AND EVENING

Trust Means Joy

"For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we have trusted in His Holy Name"
— Psalm 33:21
The root of faith produces the flower of heart-joy. We may not at the first rejoice, but it comes in due time. We trust the LORD when we are sad, and in due season He so answers our confidence that our faith turns to fruition, and we rejoice in the LORD. Doubt breeds distress, but trust means joy in the long run. The assurance expressed by the psalmist in this verse is really a promise held out in the hands of holy confidence. Oh, for grace to appropriate it. If we do not rejoice at this moment, yet we shall do so, as surely as David's God is our God. Let us meditate upon the LORD's holy name that we may trust Him the better and rejoice the more readily. He is in character holy, just, true, gracious, faithful, and unchanging. Is not such a God to be trusted? He is all wise, almighty, and everywhere present; can we not cheerfully rely upon Him? Yes, we will do so at once and do so without reserve. Jehovah-Jireh will provide; Jehovah-Shalom will send peace; Jehovah-Tsidkenu will justify; Jehovah-Shammah will be forever near; and in Jehovah-Nissi we will conquer every foe. They that know Thy name will trust Thee; and they that trust Thee will rejoice in Thee, O LORD.
