A Beautiful Rainbow

We have been having a lot of rain and thunderstorms off and on here lately.
Having just moved to the area recently, I'm not sure yet if this is unusual
or not for this time of year...but having previously lived in the south for many years,
I'm kind of used to long periods of rainy weather during hurricane season. :)
Anyway, a couple nights ago, we had a gorgeous sunset,
and some rain, which made...
 ...a beautiful double rainbow.:)
It faded away after a couple minutes or so as the sun went down.
I'm always awed at the beauty of God's handiwork.

"I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth."

Genesis 9:13-16

Peace, Perfect Peace

Peace, perfect peace, in this dark world of sin?
The blood of Jesus whispers peace within.

Peace, perfect peace, by thronging duties pressed?
To do the will of Jesus, this is rest.

Peace, perfect peace, with sorrows surging round?
On Jesus’ bosom naught but calm is found.

Peace, perfect peace, with loved ones far away?
In Jesus’ keeping we are safe, and they.

Peace, perfect peace, our future all unknown?
Jesus we know, and He is on the throne.

Peace, perfect peace, ’mid suffering’s sharpest throes?
The sympathy of Jesus breathes repose.

It is enough: earth’s struggles soon shall cease,
And Jesus calls us to Heav'n’s perfect peace.

by Edward H. Bickersteth, 1875

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose
mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth
 in thee. ~Isaiah 26:3

God's Word Is...

LIGHT:  Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105

SEED: The seed is the word of God. Luke 8:11b

BREAD:....know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth
out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live. Deuteronomy 8:3b

MILK: As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby. 1 Peter 2:2

MEAT: But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, Hebrews 5:14a

GOLD: More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: Psalm 19:10a

HONEY: ...sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Psalm 19:10b

SWORD: For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

FIRE: Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; -Jeremiah 23:29a

HAMMER: ...and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces? Jeremiah 23:29b

The Bible reveals the mind of God,
 The state of man,
The way of salvation
The doom of sinners,
And the happiness of believers.

Its author is God,
Its writers were men,
It is infallibly inspired.

It is given you in life,
Will be opened at the judgment,
And will endure forever.

It is a mine of wealth,
A river of pleasure,
A paradise of glory.

God's glory is its end,
The Lord Jesus Christ
Is its wonderful object
And our good its design.

Its histories are true,
Its doctrines are holy,
Its precepts binding.

It contains light to direct you,
Food to support you,
And comfort to cheer you.

 It should fill the memory,
Rule the heart,
 And guide the feet.

It involves the highest responsibility,
Rewards the greatest labor,
And will condemn all who trifle
With its sacred contents.

Read it thoughtfully,
Read it frequently,
Read it prayerfully.

Read it to be wise,
Believe it to be safe,
Practice it to be holy,
Memorize it to grow.

A Quote :)

"Nothing cleans the house like company coming!"
This quote makes me smile. :)

Verse of the Week

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy
and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after
the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
 Colossians 2:8

Bird Watching

This spring we've had a lot of different birds coming into our yard, and I've
enjoyed watching them and identifying as many as I can. Yesterday I spotted
this one, a Baltimore Oriole, in our front yard.

Here is a picture I found online of what it looks like up close. Isn't it a beautiful bird?
Interestingly, although they eat other things as well, these birds actually drink nectar
like hummingbirds, and will come to feeders with sugar water. Their bills are larger
than a hummingbirds, so there are feeders made specifically for orioles. I might just
have to buy one sometime!

I also checked up on the robin's nest that I posted about awhile back,
and found that the eggs have hatched, and the baby birds have grown
quite a bit! :)

Have you had many birds around your place this spring?

A Hymn: I Love Him

We love Him, because He first loved us.

  ~1 John 4:19

Gone from my heart the world and all its charm;
Gone are my sins and all that would alarm;
Gone evermore, and by His grace I know
The precious blood of Jesus cleanses white as snow.

I love Him, I love Him, Because He first loved me,
And purchased my salvation on Calv'ry's tree.

Once I was lost upon the plains of sin;
Once was a slave to doubts and fears within;
Once was afraid to trust a loving God,
But now my guilt is washed away in Jesus' blood.

I love Him, I love Him, Because He first loved me,
And purchased my salvation on Calv'ry's tree.

Once I was bound, but now I am set free;
Once I was blind, but now the light I see;
Once I was dead, but now in Christ I live,
To tell the world the peace that he alone can give.

I love Him, I love Him, Because He first loved me,
And purchased my salvation on Calv'ry's tree.

Needlework

Today I've been working on an embroidery project, and just thought
I'd share some pictures.
I've been enjoying trying some of the new (at least new to me) :) stitches
that my Grandma taught me while she came for a visit this past year. She has
made some beautiful embroidered quilts, pillowcases, etc. over the years,
and I just had to ask her to teach me how she does it. :)

It's been fun, and I hope to do some more projects in the future. :)

A Robin's Nest

After living in the south for many years where robins usually only
pass through during the winter as they head south and don't nest in the area,
I've wanted to see a robin's nest for a long time. After moving north this year, I was
excited when my sister recently discovered this one in a tree in the front yard!

If you look closely, you can see the mother robin sitting on her nest.:)
Four beautiful blue eggs. :) It shouldn't be long before
they should hopefully hatch!

The works of the LORD are great, sought out of all them
that have pleasure therein.  ~Psalms 111:2
